Vrijdag 4 december 2009, de 50ste herdenking van de 7 December Divisie.
Er waren weer velen Indië-veteranen aanwezig, voor hen blijft het een bijzondere dag om samen met kameraden te herdenken de Sobats die gesneuveld zijn in Indië. Zij zullen tot het echt niet meer kan aanwezig zijn op de jaarlijkse herdenkingsdag.
Ruim boven de tachtig jaar oud, lichamelijke beperkingen of niet, uit Groningen of Limburg, als één van de laatste over van hun peloton of compagnie het maakt hen niet uit want een Indië-veteraan ben je tenslotte levenslang.
Tijdens de herdenkingsdienst zorgde het koperensemble "RFGGJ" voor de muziek en het Nunspeets mannenkoor zong enkele liederen. Er waren toespraken van aalmoezenier Hes, kolonel Brons, dominee Sent en er werd een gedicht voorgedragen door mevrouw Steenstra. Dominee Sent was nieuw dit jaar en de vervanger van de in juni jl. overleden oud veldprediker en Indië- veteraan Le Grand die de voor hem zo kenmerkende toespraak kon houden.
De kranslegging was goed georganiseerd en verliep vlot, het was koud en zwaar bewolkt weer maar gelukkig bleef het droog.
De Indië-veteranen brachten in groepjes de kransen naar het monument. Er werd ook stil gestaan bij de sergeant Mark Weijdt die op 19 december 2008 in Uruzgan om het leven is gekomen, bij het monument werden bloemen gelegd door zijn familieleden.
Als afsluiting van de kranslegging werd het Wilhelmus gespeeld met aansluitend het defilé langs het monument en daarmee was het officiële gedeelte van de herdenking voorbij en tijd om bij te praten onder het genot van een hapje en drankje.
Alle veteranen kregen een herdenkingstegel uitgereikt ter ere van de 50ste herdenking.
Een speciaal woord van dank voor de voortreffelijk georganiseerde herdenking 2009 aan de hele organisatie en in het bijzonder aan adjudant Falck, dit was zijn laatste herdenking omdat hij met pensioen gaat.
